For NBA All-Star Weekend 2024, Blockhouse transformed downtown Indianapolis architecture into two distinct projection experiences. Rebounding Reflections celebrated Indiana’s basketball heritage through architectural illusion, while Kinetic Reflections brought local athletes and dancers into larger-than-life compositions of movement, color, and light.
Rebounding Reflections transformed the building’s Art Deco façade with rainbow hues, stained-glass-inspired patterns, and oversized basketballs. Custom 3D animation aligned with the architecture, using geometric forms and layered shadows to create depth. The installation brought Indiana’s basketball heritage into the streets through a vibrant celebration of public art.
Featuring local dancers and basketball players, Kinetic Reflections transformed filmed performances into kaleidoscopic compositions at building scale. Mirrored figures and repeated gestures formed sweeping patterns across the façade, celebrating the movement and creativity of Indiana’s community while bringing local performers into the spotlight during All-Star Weekend.
Blockhouse brought local talent into the studio to capture the movement behind Kinetic Reflections. Filmed basketball sequences and dance performances became the foundation for kaleidoscopic animations, while a custom spinning basketball rig allowed the team to capture isolated footage against a green screen. Through compositing, repetition, and animation, these studio elements became building-scale public art celebrating the energy of Indianapolis.
